Procurement and Distribution - Lead Pharmacy Technician
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our expanding pharmacy team, providing procurement expertise to our newly insourced pharmacy dispensary.
We welcome applications from GPhC registered technicians with previous procurement and distribution experience within hospital pharmacy.
The base for this role will be Goodmayes Hospital, Barley Lane, Ilford.
Main duties of the job
To manage the pharmacy procurement and distribution service, ensuring:
- high quality service provision, effective risk management, clinical governance and adherence to relevant legislation, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- implementation of contracts and contract review mechanisms, including developing methods of increasing savings and ensuring value for money
- management of medicine shortages in close liaison with senior pharmacists to provide optimum available products and reduce clinical risks to patients.
- the trust is exposed to the minimum financial risk by operating robust systems
- the trust is exposed to minimum clinical risk by purchasing from reputable suppliers and that unlicensed products are identified for Quality Control
- Provide strategic development of the process and systems for medicines procurement, storage and distribution ensuring the quality of all medicines purchased by the Trust and that processes are compliant with legislation and best practice.
- Support management of the medicines budget within the trust including provision of financial information and expenditure reports.
- To support the Pharmacy operations & Supply chain manager and Deputy Chief Pharmacist in delivering strategic objectives of maintaining and developing pharmacy services across the trust.
- Provide leadership within the department to support and embed the trust core values into everyday practice.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).
