An opportunity has arisen for a passionate midwife to join our specialist midwifery Team.
The Bereavement Midwife will provide clinical leadership within the maternity services and will play an integral part in service delivery and development. They will be pivotal in developing and delivering an education program around baby loss and bereavement to all health care professionals.
Main duties of the job
The Bereavement Midwife will provide clinical leadership within the maternity services and will play an integral part in service delivery and development. They will be pivotal in developing and delivering an education programme around baby loss and bereavement to all health care professionals.
The Bereavement midwife will assist in the development of guidelines and pathways, and will review them in relation to stillbirths, late miscarriage, medical termination and neonatal deaths.
They will collect the data for MBRRACE-UK: Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK and feedback reports and relevant findings to key groups implement service delivery changes as required The Bereavement Midwife will be responsible for coordinating/Implementing the national standardised Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT).The Bereavement midwife will lead and implement the core principles of the National Bereavement Care pathway.
The Bereavement Midwife will be a practicing registered midwife who will lead and work as a member of the Multidisciplinary team within the maternity service. They will facilitate and provide individualised care to bereaved women/birthing people and their families

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

· Provide expert support and facilitation of staff in the provision of information. care, support
and practical advice to women/birthing people with confirmed fetal abnormality, who choose to terminate their pregnancy and to those who choose to continue their pregnancy including co-ordinating palliative care if this is appropriate.
· Lead and support staff, setting standards of care in the provision of information and practical advice to parents who have suffered the loss of their baby through miscarriage, termination for abnormalities, stillbirth, neonatal or Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome.
· Be the named lead and co-ordinator for women/birthing people, families and staff with regards to information relating to pregnancy loss. Has the ability to assess each individual case and exercise exceptional judgement when providing personalized care and support for parents.
Professional
· To maintain and improve knowledge and expertise in current developments and future trends in relation to Midwifery management and practice, including the Trust’s Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery and Scope of Professional Practice.
· Working with colleagues to performance manage and monitor bereavement care in maternity services, in accordance with the national and locally agreed quality outcomes, including the monitoring of service quality from the perspective of those who are bereaved.
· Working under pressure with tight schedules and deadlines in order to meet Trust targets, Quality and governance
· To be responsible for and maintain own professional development
· Maintain an awareness of relevant research and encourage the implementation of relevant findings into clinical practice
· Works within the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Midwives Rules & Standards with particular regard to registration of stillbirth and maternal death.
· Ability to use research evidence in own practice.

Education and qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered midwife with evidence of practice in all areas of midwifery
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Mentorship qualification
- Degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of other professional managerial qualifications
- Counselling Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Communicating effectively with women, staff and other agencies
- Facilitate effective team working
- Evidence of knowledge of recent midwifery research and clinical audit
- Demonstrate an ability to apply research to practice and to support changes in practice as a result of clinical audit
- Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
- IT skills, Excel
