Diabetic Specialist Midwife

Job overview
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic midwife to join our team.
The lead Midwife for diabetes will be an integral part of the service driving forward the diabetes in pregnancy, birth and the postnatal safety initiatives and supporting a culture of individualised care that promotes a safe and positive pregnancy and birth experience.
The post holder will be passionate and experienced in working with women with diabetes, providing direct maternity care to these women in conjunction with the Obstetricians, Diabetes consultants, Diabetic Specialist Nurses, Dietician and wider multidisciplinary teams (MDT). Working collaboratively with the individual woman the role will assess, plan, implement and coordinate their maternity care pathway.
Main duties of the job
The role includes regular input on the wards and supporting the inpatient care of women. The post holder will work autonomously and within a team. This role also incorporates training and education of the healthcare professionals in the management and care of women with Diabetes in Pregnancy.
Responsible for the operational management of the service and ensure staff have adequate support to enable them to focus on their core responsibilities
The individual will undertake the key functions of the band 7 role, ensuring the women’s and birthing people’s experience is of the highest possible standard at all times, with particular emphasis on the provision of dignified and compassionate care, which is delivered in a safe and clean environment.
The post holder will work with the Head of Midwifery and the Senior Management Team in developing and implementing a divisional strategy achieve the Trusts objectives and ensure that effective governance arrangements are implemented and maintained.

· Provide specialist clinical support to for the diabetes in pregnancy service
Implement and support delivery of the education package to enable women to undertake blood glucose monitoring and recording of this with an application such as the GDM-Health app.
Organise follow up visits and triaging of women who are on-boarded onto the GDM-health app
· Refer as appropriate any women to the multidisciplinary team.
Assist with review of the women with diabetes in pregnancy in all inpatient and outpatient clinical areas as required

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Professional knowledge acquired through a degree or diploma, supplemented by specialist training
Desirable criteria
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Leadership qualification / relevant experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration clinical experience
- Working experience in a clinical environment relevant to high risk pregnancies
Desirable criteria
- Experience of developing policies and protocols
- Experience of a family centred approach to the delivery of care
- Experience of leading service development projects
- Experience in disseminating work through presentation and publication
