General Paediatric Consultant

NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant

Job overview

We are looking to recruit two acute general paediatric consultants to join our dynamic and friendly department at West Middlesex University Hospital.  We welcome all general paediatric applicants and have scope to develop areas of clinical special interest. Special interests in Paediatric Neurology, Epilepsy, Respiratory medicine, Allergy and Diabetes would be particularly welcome.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we expand our consultant team.  This post forms part of our newly designed consultant rota with attending weeks covering the general paediatric and acute pathway including short stay unit.  All consultants participate in the acute out of hours rota providing a resident late shift (1700-2130) and non-resident on call, both 1:15.  In addition this post will give the opportunity to provide clinics according to interest.

Main duties of the job

The paediatric department at the West Middlesex site is a busy local general hospital providing high quality Paediatric care for the local population. The unit comprises general paediatric inpatient ward (Starlight), a dedicated paediatric short stay unit (PSSU), day case unit (Sunshine) and paediatric outpatient facilities. We work closely with our colleagues in the paediatric emergency department, including dedicated PEM consultant team, providing assessment and care for acutely unwell children.  We have recently a launched community based, nurse-led hospital at home service and the post-holder will have opportunities for innovation and leadership within the ambulatory service.

We are a popular training unit with a focus on education and support a large number of paediatric and GP trainees as well as teaching medical students. There is scope to develop interests in teaching, education and educational supervision.

The successful applicant will join our team providing excellent paediatric care to our local children and families.

We are a friendly and supportive team within a trust that benefits from a wide range of coaching and leadership programs to support professional development.

We would love to meet you for an informal visit.

Working for our organisation

The Trusts provides services from two main hospitals, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, and a number of clinics across London and the South-East. We have over 7,000 members of staff that are PROUD to Care for nearly one million people. Both hospitals provide full clinical services, including full maternity, emergency and children’s, in addition to a range of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We’re one of the best preforming Trusts in the country. We’re also one of the top trusts to work for – our staff say they’re engaged, motivated, and would recommend us as a place to work and receive treatment.

Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We’ve also been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection.

Our facilities are some of the best in the country. We have been investing around £10 million a year in our estate. We are currently spending £30 million on expanding our adult and neonatal critical care facilities at Chelsea and Westminster and redevelopment of our children’s unit at West Middlesex – in partnership with our charity, CW+ and generous donors.
