We provide a wide range of mental health specialist services, including children and young people’s mental health services, prison services, forensic services, eating disorders and drug and alcohol recovery. We also support the UK Armed forces community, including members of the Reserve Forces, providing specialist veteran services across London.

Both our trusts are rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission, with many areas judged to be Outstanding.

We proactively welcome diversity in our workforce and pride ourselves on being an inclusive employer.  We aim to recruit from our local communities and provide Apprenticeship opportunities as well as employment opportunities for care-leavers.

Job overview

Islington Core Team Psychology Lead - Principal Clinical / Counselling psychologist

We are transforming North London Mental Health Partnership Teams in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the NHS Mental Health Implementation Plan 2019/20 - 2023/24, and are looking for skilled, innovative clinical and counselling psychologists to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of more integrated ways of working in mental health. The transformation of community mental health services aims to break down the barriers to care, by integrating primary and secondary care services and delivering a model that improves access to holistic approaches, for our service users.

Main duties of the job

The role will provide an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to lead the psychological provision in Islington Core Teams. The post will be part of a leadership team, made up of senior managers in the local teams as well as a consultant psychologist, to develop and operationally manage an integrated and enhanced primary care approach to clients experiencing mental health difficulties.

You will work closely with the Operational and Clinical Leads to ensure the delivery of a high quality, accessible, and inclusive psychological service. The post holder will be drawing on a range of psychological approaches to help establish psychologically and trauma informed practice within the teams and wider service area through delivering and overseeing interventions, as well as providing consultation (informal and formal), training and reflective practice when required.

There will be opportunities for service development, quality improvement, and innovative and unique practice in this post as part of the transformation. You will work alongside other psychological professions in partnership with health, social care and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCS). The role is supported by senior management.

Working for our organisation

The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.

In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for someone who is keen to embrace the privileges of working in a diverse borough and has experience of working with people with complex mental health difficulties from a range of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We are particularly keen to attract people from our local communities.

By joining the team during this exciting time of transformation, you will have a unique opportunity to inform and shape the implementation of our clinical strategy; to develop your leadership skills and to improve mental health care for people living in Camden and Islington.

You will be required to work flexibly, independently and responsively within a changing environment. Applicants need to enjoy outreach and multi-agency joint working and need to have experience in direct working with services users with complex needs.
