Job overview
Camden & Islington, as part of the North Central London (NCL) ICS is rolling out the London Vanguard project in Camden (18-25yr olds) and Islington (10-25 yr olds). The pilot is to develop co-produced, trauma-informed, mental health provision within the community for Young Adults and Adolescents at risk of or affected by violence.
We are wanting to recruit an innovative and highly motivated Clinical Psychologist who has extensive experience of working with Children, Adolescents and/or Young Adults at risk of serious youth violence. The successful candidate will be required to work in partnership with local authority, criminal justice, voluntary sector, community and mental health leads within Islington in delivering a high quality, responsive and innovative service in the borough.
This post will sit in the Young People’s Service in Camden & Islington NHS Trust . The successful candidate will be expected to have a thorough knowledge of and expertise in working with young people or Children & Adolescents involved within the criminal justice system/ affected by serious youth violence. You will need to be a highly motivated, independent individual with excellent leadership skills and a proven record of delivering on innovative projects. This will include training and engagement with stakeholders on all levels.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the Islington London Vanguard project (Elevate), ensuring that the clinical and strategic priorities are taken forward in an agreed and coherent way. The postholder will provide high level clinical leadership across the service, working closely with the team, families and multi-agency professionals to improve emotional and holistic well-being for young people in ensuring the delivery of highly innovative and adaptive evidence based psychological interventions for 10-25 year old’s at risk of or affected by violence. The postholder will develop opportunities to offer consultation to non-psychologist colleagues, professionals and carers within the young people’s network, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the pilot’s’s policies and procedures. The postholder will be responsible for the development of opportunities to work alongside young people with lived experience to coproduce creative activities and social action projects. Embracing new ways of working will be key, as the model constantly evolves to respond to the needs and aspirations of the young people it serves. The postholder will be required to utilise research skills for audit, policy, service development and research in order to evaluate the service and provide evidence for further service development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide clinical and professional leadership in the setting up and delivery of the Islington London Vanguard (Elevate).
To oversee and support the team to provide highly specialist psychological and psychometric assessment, formulation and intervention including risk assessment and the development of risk management plans to Islington London Vanguard service users in individual, group or family settings.
To routinely utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice
To ensure interventions are youth-led
Where appropriate, to take responsibility for initiating, planning and review of care plans for Islington service users. This will involve offering staff from other agencies guidance on mental health
To engage in clinical audit and maintain appropriate records of work

SKILLS/ ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- • Skills in developing, managing and co-ordinating: psychological interventions with young people who do not initially seek help; training packages (staff and clients); consultation for other professionals; supervision of staff from a range of professional backgrounds • Working knowledge of at least two specialised psychological therapies for example CBT, Family Therapy etc. • Knowledge of research methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within the mental health field • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practise and professional management in relation to this client group i.e. young people aged 16-25 years • Ability to manage a range of tasks in order to meet agreed priorities and deadlines; ability to monitor, review, evaluate and report progress • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to communicate highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside of an organisation • Ability to manage an independent clinical caseload and effective multidisciplinary working Ability to manage an independent clinical caseload and effective multidisciplinary working

QUALIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS
Essential criteria
- Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology and current registration with the Health Professions Council as a clinical psychologist or a Counselling Psychologist
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in cognitive behaviour therapy and working towards eligibility for registration with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy Completion of further post-qualification specialist training in areas of practice relevant to the post, for example: Narrative-based Trauma Training (eg N.E.T) AMBIT training Mentalization-based training DBT training
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Experience of working as a qualified professional in an area relevant to this post, preferably CAMHS, YOT or a community-based adolescent team. • Evidence of a high level of competent and autonomous clinical practice. • Experience of working within the different psychological models that are evidence based or are building an evidence base • Understanding of monitoring outcomes and reporting back to funders
