The CNWL Temporary Staffing Service offers flexible working patterns which supports you and the Trust, and can also provide frequent work for those with regular availability.
Band 5 nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
• keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
• ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedures
• ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process
We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities

Patient Safety Band 5 nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
• Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible
• Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when an adult or child might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary
• Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
• Being open and transparent about their own practice
• Supervising the work of others
• Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
• Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
• Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
• Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements.

What Happens Next?
The registration process will include an interview and you will be required to visit one of our nearby sites to verify your identity in person. Depending on your role, you may also be asked to complete some basic tests. The process is as follows:
- Complete the online TRAC application form
- Our recruitment team will invite you to interview
- Complete pre-employment checks and online mandatory training
- You will be set up on Bank and be ready to work

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse Adult
- Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in the community either as a band 5 nurse, a student nurse or health care assistant is desirable.
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports.
- Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
- Able to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
- Able to maintain electronic patient records Use Microsoft Word for letter and report writing
- You are expected to have the skills required to act as a professional, registered nurse and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct. These will vary from service area to service area but all band 5 nurses should be proficient in: - Care planning: being able to assess patients, develop, implement and evaluate a care plan - Empowering and working in partnership - Safeguarding and advocacy - Understanding how the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards impacts on their work and the people they are working with - Understanding how the Mental Health Act impacts on their work and the people they are working with
- Understanding the concept of quality and their role in improving safety, clinical outcomes and the patient experience
- Infection control and Asceptic Non Touch Technique - Manual Handling patients - Obtaining Consent - Medicines management and administration
- Work well with other members of the team including communicating effectively, being kind and considerate, reliable and enthusiastic. Help others in the team achieve their objectives and deliver safe, effective care Mentor, teach and support others in the team Supervise others in the team Facilitate appraisals and performance manage others in the team
- Contribute to the culture of the team and play a role in making it inclusive, kind and hard working

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
