Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join Ealing theatre team as a Band 5 Anaesthetic Practitioner.

The post holder must be a registered nurse or HCPC registered ODP who has some experience in theatres. You must be a good communicator and team player.  The role will involve working collaboratively under supervision initially; with the theatre and peri-operative team to ensure quality, safe and efficient care is delivered to our patients with HEART value.

You will be part of the theatre anaesthetic team to participate in internal rotation to work in different specialties and providing weekends, nights or on call cover after training.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the day-to-day delivery of theatre service. You will also take part to create a conducive learning environment to all staff, students/ trainee ODPs in collaboration with the Team Leads and the Peri-operative Education Team. In house training will be provided and you will be offered external training courses to develop your competencies in care of patients undergoing surgery.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in developing and consolidating a cohesive and supportive team within the peri-operative environment.
  • Ensure good communication verbally and via formal documentation and electronic sources with all members of the peri-operative nursing, multidisciplinary team, patients and families to ensure patients receive optimum care.
  • Maintain the patient’s right to privacy and dignity at all times
  • Communicates with all colleagues in a courteous and sympathetic manner
  • Act as advocate for the patient and family.
  • Ensure carers/family and visitors are aware of policies, standards/guidelines relevant to the patients care or clinical area.
  • Work in partnership with the patient and family and other health care professionals in care/discharge planning.
  • Accept responsibility; be aware and able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to both by self and
  • Recognize the legal implications of nursing documentation therefore maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records of patient care in line with Trust policies and HCPC Code of Conduct.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Adult RN or HCPC Registered ODP
  • • Has some knowledge/experience of working in the operating theatre on the Anaesthetic side
  • Anaesthetic experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Competent to undertake a variety of roles within the peri-operative environment -to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate the specialised nursing care of adults being prepared for, undergoing, and recovering from anaesthesia

Knowledge and expereince

Essential criteria
  • Basic insight into perio-operative practice
  • • Have appropriate knowledge and skills to provide holistic care to patients in a perioperative and day care setting • Ability to learn peri-operative skills.
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in anaesthetic Care specialty

Skills, abilities and attributes

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Able to demonstrate clinical and technical expertise
  • Able to use Electronic Patient record System
