Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner

- During training, the post holder will be practicing autonomously within their agreed scope of practice, stage of training and level of competence to provide patient-centred quality care. This will encompass the skills of advanced assessment, examination, diagnosis and management.
- The ACP educational programme will blend academic university study with the acquisition of work-based clinical learning.
- The successful candidate will be fully supported to undertake a Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. After successful completion of agreed objectives the post holder will progress to a band 8a ACP.
- To work within the Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE 2017).
- The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to leadership and management, education and research.

Main duties/key results areas and responsibilities
Clinical and professional
· Autonomously work in partnership with individuals, families and carers, using a range of advanced assessment methods as appropriate (e.g. history taking, physical examination, identifying risk factors, mental health assessments) according to level of training, competence and scope of practice
· Use decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with differentiated and undifferentiated individual presentations synthesising information from multiple sources to make appropriate, evidence-based judgements and/or diagnoses
Leadership and management
· Assess effectiveness of care delivery through self and peer review, benchmarking and formal evaluation
· Participate in the maintenance of quality governance systems and processes across the organisation and its activities
Education and training
· To successfully complete a Post Graduate Diploma/MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
· To successfully complete relevant work-based assessments and clinical competencies relevant to role
Audit and Research
· Develop a special interest within certain areas to allow the sharing of clinical knowledge and expertise
· Contribute to the development of multidisciplinary research and clinical audit, implementing effective and evidence based practice

Their main site, St George’s Hospital in Tooting – one of the country’s principal teaching hospitals – is shared with St George’s, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.
The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.
