Job overview

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking to recruit a full time, substantive, dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to work within the Liaison team in the London Borough of Lewisham. This is an all age service, which is compliant with the Core 24 model for Liaison Psychiatry.

This is a substantive Consultant post and has previously already been approved by the RCPsych but has recently been resubmitted for approval as it has been more than two years since last approved. The vacancy has arisen due to impending move of the current post holder to take on a different clinical role within the directorate

If you are looking for an exciting frontline role, within a well- established team, with opportunities for further service development and incorporating quality improvement methodology to evaluate changes, then this is the ideal post for you.

You will join two other consultants, one of who is an Adult Liaison Psychiatrist (full time, 10 PA) and the other, is an Old Age Liaison Psychiatrist (8 PA). The role would be ideal for a dual trained Liaison consultant (Adult and Old age) but we are also open to receiving applications just from Adult Liaison Consultants. We welcome applications from candidates with general adult training and with dual training.

For further details please refer to attached advertisement and JD.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be employed by the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, but also be expected to hold an honorary clinical contract with Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, and the full-time clinical role will be within the acute trust. These two trusts have good working relations, and a key component of the post will be liaising between them.

The post is based in University Hospital Lewisham (UHL), but the post holder will have an office and second team base at the Ladywell Unit which is also located on the UHL site, and which houses all our acute Psychiatric wards and our PICU in addition to our outpatient clinic and staff offices/work hubs.
