Job overview

We are excited to recruit a Band 4 Peritoneal Dialysis Nursing Associate to join our Renal Services Team at the Royal London Hospital. This role will focus on delivering high-quality, person-centred care to patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).

This post is suitable for staff who have completed their Nursing Associate training and wishes to provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care. Any potential applicant should have in interest in Renal nursing and chronic services. PD experience is not essential for this post. Training in PD Nursing and Home Care Services will be provided. 

Main duties of the job

The role will involve:
•    Supporting the clinical nursing team to manage PD patients attending outpatient clinic.
•    Supporting with connection and disconnection of inpatient from PD machines.
•    Assisting the community PD nursing team with home visits.
•    Patient education, teaching and supporting patients new to PD
•    Working collaboratively with the Renal MDT for the care of PD patients
•    Assessing patients, clinical observations and wound assessments/ simple wound care for patients attending PD outpatient’s clinic
•    Maintaining accurate records and documentation, ensuring all activities align with legislation, policies, and best practices

  • Professional Registration – Nursing Associate

  • Intravenous accreditation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years band 3 Nursing assistant experience in an acute hospital setting
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of a positive contribution to team work

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NMC code of conduct.
  • Able to recognise own limits and work within those limits of competence
  • Moving and Handling
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current developments in the speciality
  • Understanding of Clinical and Shared Governance and their implications to practice.
