Are you ready to lead the well-established ED nursing team at the Royal London Hospital; one of the busiest EDs in London, in one of the largest NHS Trust in the UK and one of the leading healthcare providers in the country? By being part of the Bart’s Health Trust and through our strong partnership with PLACE and ICB, GPs and other stakeholders, you will be able to develop further and implement the delivery of emergency care services in its broadest sense, including ambulatory care, PRU and SDEC services. You will also benefit from being part of the integrated service that spans across physical, mental and social care services delivered across several divisions within the Barts Health NHS Trust. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the service group, ensuring the nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively. He/she contributes to the ongoing implementation of the nursing strategy, ensuring achievement of its objectives and strive to develop nursing roles in accordance with patient and service needs.

The Senior Nurse will lead innovative improvement projects which supports the Trust Quality strategy, driving transformation through change models and prepare business cases where appropriate. He/she will ensure patient experience in wards /departments is of the highest possible standard and always reflecting Trust values with particular emphasis on patient safety, dignity and compassion.

The Senior Nurse will work in partnership with the ED matrons, Lead Nurses, Service Clinical Directors, General and Service Managers and other colleagues to continue to develop and implement a clinical, research and academic service strategy promoting multi professional research, audit and education that contributes to delivering the Hospitals and the Groups objectives. The Senior Nurse will work to ensure staff health and wellbeing is considered within the service objectives.

The post holder may be required to deputise for their line manager in his/her absence, overseeing the smooth running of the service as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN
  • Degree level registered nurse (or working towards)
  • Educated to master’s level (or working towards)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by relevant specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
  • A&E course
  • Leadership/management qualification or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within the specialty of Emergency and acute care in a senior nursing role
  • Teaching, mentorship and supervision of staff practice development including policy development.
  • Audit / research-based nursing practice resource management change management.
  • Leading and developing a team
  • Effective budget management
  • Complaints handling
  • Trust wide initiatives/committee membership
  • Working at a senior nursing level at band 8a
  • Delivering training
Desirable criteria
