Job overview

The Estates Hard FM Team is responsible for the day to day repairs, PPM & operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located in the Trust.

We are looking to recruit a motivated & flexible Apprentice Building Fabrication Craftsperson to join our multi-Skilled Estates team at Mile End Hospital & Royal London Retained Estate providing operational maintenance services throughout the Trust & its associated properties & sites. 

You will learn the building fabrication & carpentry trade, whilst being supervised by our qualified trade team.

Duties include learning statutory maintenance works as instructed to ensure compliance with current HTM’s, relevant Health & Safety Regulations,  ACOP’s and Trust policies.

To learn to undertake duties of a Competent Person (CP) in accordance with the relevant NHS HTM Guidance.

To learn to be able to demonstrate suitable skills in the operation of woodworking machinery& associated hand-tools, the manufacturing window/door/access frames, installation of stud partitioning, & repair & maintenance of building associated structures and equipment using wood, plastics, laminates & other related composite materials.

Applicants will gain the ability to undertake immediate & effective repairs to all building/construction structures & equipment with minimum supervision & compliance with all relevant statutory obligations, good practice guidelines & working to specifications, drawings & operational maintenance manuals.

Main duties of the job

This is a fixed term contract for the entire duration of the apprenticeship, through work experience, studying, training and development (both practical and vocational), complete a course of study and obtain work-related professional qualification: 

NVQ Level Diploma in Building Fabrication including Painting and Decorating and Carpentry within 5 years of joining.

To carry out work allocated to a high standard and ensure it is carried out in strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, and any other relevant legislation covering safety in the workplace for self and others. 

The post holder is responsible in learning and to carry out a range of supervised building fabrication services and equipment maintenance within the MEH and RLH Retained Establishment.
