Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be employed on a wide range of fault-finding and maintenance duties. 
She/he will be responsible for maintaining all Building Fabric, Mechanical & Electrical 
building services and equipment within the Trust properties. 
• To ensure all Health and Safety Control and Asbestos, COSHH and permit to work 
systems are adhered to at all times. Reporting any non-safe practices or faulty 
equipment which could affect their own safety and that of any employee throughout 
the Trust, or Trust property. 
• To follow departmental and the Trust’s operating policies and procedures when 
undertaking this role. 
• Required to work on his/her own initiative unsupervised within the standard operating 
procedures and prioritise the work schedule. 
• To maintain good working relationships and communicate effectively, especially on 
the routine technical information with the recipients who may not be specialists in the 
technical field. 
• The post holder shall hold CP accreditations and perform Authorised Person (AP) 
duties for which they are suitably experienced, trained or qualified and appointed 
• To participate in the Estates On Call rotas covering various Trust sites as directe

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • To have served a recognised Apprenticeship. (To City & Guild 236/NVQ level 3 standard / BTEC – ONC/HNC or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • The Level 3 NVQs in Mechanical Engineering Services – Heating, and Ventilating or BTEC/ONC or equivalent.
  • Hospital Plumbing System

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of NHS hospital environment or similar establishments
  • Experience of building maintenance and systems
  • Experience of working on specialist hospital equipment
  • Experience of lone working
  • Experience to follow detailed engineering/electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of H&S Legislation and hospital specifics (HTM’s)
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of hospital Health Building Notes (HBN)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of H&S Legislation and some knowledge of COSHH
  • Basic computer skills

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to prioritise own work.
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a small team.
  • Good Numeracy and literacy skills
  • To be versatile in their approach to maintenance services and will have the ability to work on their own initiative as well as an integral part of a team
  • Flexible to multi-skilling and can be responsive to changes in technology.
  • Knowledge of Electrical installations including Fire Alarm systems and Stand-By Generators.
