We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Ophthalmologist to take up the position of Medical Retina Fellow, providing support across Medical Retina (MR), Injection service and Eye casualty.
This position offers comprehensive clinical experience in contemporary techniques in Medical Retina. The fellowship includes surgical exposure, with a cataract list, providing the opportunity to gain further experience in the area.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the audit and clinical governance activity of the department and contribute to research projects. There is support for continuing professional education and development under the supervision of their clinical supervisor.
Main duties of the job
To meet the increasing service demands of the Medical Retina service at Whipps Cross Hospital and our satellite site at Newham University Hospital, this role will provide essential support for MR (Medical Retina) and Injection Clinics. Additionally, the successful candidate will perform retinal laser procedures, contribute to the smooth running of the Eye Theatres by providing clinical support and support eye casualty.
This position also offers high-quality training and exciting research opportunities for ophthalmology trainees, fostering both professional development and innovation in the field.
The post is primarily based at Whipps Cross University Hospital; however, the successful candidate may be required to work across other Barts Health sites as needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Eye Treatment Centre is a dedicated facility for the delivery of Ophthalmology Services under one roof.
It accommodates ophthalmic outpatients, a day surgery suite with twin operating theatres (each with Zeiss Artevo 750 Surgical Microscopes and Bausch + Lomb Phaco machines with lasers) and integrated orthoptic and optometric services. There is a laser suite for YAG, Argon and Diode (micro pulse), diagnostic facilities for FFA, ICG, SD OCT (2x Heidelberg, Zeiss Cirrus), corneal topography and 3x Zeiss Humphrey Visual Field machines.

- Competent in assessing retinal disease and using OCT scans/ fluorescein angiograms
