Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for a fixed-term Trust Registrar (Higher trainee-equivalent) in Stroke Medicine, to join our Acute Stroke Unite based on the Whipps Cross site.
Main duties of the job
Whipps Cross University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for a fixed-term Trust Registrar (Higher trainee-equivalent) in Stroke Medicine, to join our Acute Stroke Unite based on the Whipps Cross site.
This post offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a multi-disciplinary team which focusses on providing excellent care to a diverse population base. It is suitable for doctors who have completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (or equivalent). The post is ideal for candidates who wish to gain a period of focused experience and training in Stroke Medicine.
At least MRCP part 1 is essential for this post and full MRCP is desirable.
Successful applicants will be able to develop individualized educational goals. This post presents excellent opportunities to develop clinical skills and has very high level of consultant supervision. This provides a good educational opportunity and if the post holder is interested, they will be able to gain audit.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Progression towards full MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
- MRCP part 1 is essential for this post.
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of participation in research (peer-reviewed publication(s) etc)
- Full MRCP
Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad experience in General (Internal) Medicine and medical specialties.
- Completion of F1/F2 years. At least 24 months experience as medical SHO in appropriate acute medical specialties.
- Current ALS certificate
Desirable criteria
- Higher trainee-equivalent experience of working in medical specialities such as stroke or neurology.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
- Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritize clinical need.
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit/quality improvement and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
- Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning

- Extra-curricular activities / achievements relevant to the job
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of supervising medical staff
- Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
