Job overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 nurse to join the Brent Children’s Community Nursing Team. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic full-time qualified Nurse.

The post holder will work as part of the Brent Children’s Community Nursing Team and will be required to work closely within a multi-disciplinary setting. Intravenous competency with central lines would be an advantage.

This post offers a great opportunity for a Paediatric Nurse to further develop nursing skills within the community setting. The organisation is supportive of training needs and there is an excellent training an education programme. You will also receive regular safeguarding supervision, clinical supervision and will have support from the Team.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Children’s Community Nursing Team, providing nursing care primarily within a child’s home, school and nursery, ensuring the delivery of evidenced based care to children and their families or carers, in conjunction with the Children’s Community Service Manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • to participate in the assessment, planning and provision of skilled nursing care in negotiation with the child and family, in conjunction with the Children’s Community Team Leads.
  • to provide skilled, effective, evidenced based nursing care for children with complex care needs including technology dependent such as tracheostomy care and central venous access.
  • to provide skilled, effective, evidenced based nursing care for children with a variety of nursing needs, such as enteral feeding, and intra-venous antibiotic administration.  
  • to work in a collaborative manner with other agencies to ensure a seamless delivery of care to families
  • to provide information and support to facilitate the child’s and family’s own choices with regards to nursing care
  • to empower parents/carers to enable them to safely care for their child within the community environment, through education, support and risk assessment.
  • to maintain accurate, systematic and timely record keeping including recording of clinical data.
  • to promote Health Education as an integrated aspect of care delivery
  • to ensure safe handling of body fluids and contaminated sharps in personal practice
  • to work as an autonomous and lone practitioner with the support of CCN Team Leads
  • to support a child is receiving end of life care at home

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • RGN / RSCN / RN(Child)
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
  • Evidence of post registration education and training
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within Children’s Nursing in an acute setting
  • Experience of working with students
  • Experience of working with multi-professional team
  • Completion of preceptorship.
