Job overview

We are looking for Theatre Practitioners – both Nurses (adult or paediatric) and ODPs to join our welcoming and dynamic Theatre Scrub Team.

We have positions available for different specialties. We are now looking for Scrub Practitioners that wish to step up to the next level in their career and have an interest working with children whilst undergoing their surgery.

Previous experience within paediatric surgery is desirable but not essential as you will be given training and support by the perioperative team to develop new skills to equip you in the paediatric setting.

As a department we have an expert Practice Education team who support our peri-operative team to help teach, develop, and strengthen these skills in order to support your ongoing professional development.

Great Ormond Street Hospital is an internationally renowned hospital for children at the cutting edge of paediatric surgical advances through research and innovation, close to all central London amenities.  We consider all flexible working requests and offer lots of staff benefits.

We have 18 operating theatres and cater for a number of specialities including Cardiac, Neuro, Orthopaedic, Spinal, Craniofacial, General Surgery, Plastics, ENT, Urology, Renal, Maxillofacial and Ophthalmology.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide the highest standard of nursing care for the children and their families at all times.
  • To plan, assess, implement and evaluate programmes of care for individual children and to supervise other staff in this activity.
  • To ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the children and their families.
  • To supervise and support members of the ward team as required, ensuring that all patients receive appropriate care.
  • To ensure that treatments prescribed by the medical staff are carried out, and that multidisciplinary team members are informed of changes in the patient’s condition.
  • To ensure quality care is given, by being familiar with agreed ward and Trust standards of care and to inform senior nursing staff, if the required standard cannot be reached
  • To maintain confidentiality surrounding the child’s admission and treatment at all times.
  • To ensure that all patient care is documented, and that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales using Trust approved documentation, in line with NMC, CQC  and Trust standards.
  • To have knowledge of and adhere to ward and Trust policy and professional standards. To ensure that team members do likewise.
  • To demonstrate a professional approach to work, and act in accordance with the GOS personal responsibilities framework, the NMC and HCPC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
