Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Directorate of Women’s, Children, Cardiovascular Science within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as Cardiology Waiting List scheduler.

The Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Service at Imperial College Healthcare Trust is one of the largest services in the UK providing Cardiology & Cardiothoracic services across two hospital sites; Hammersmith Hospital, and St Mary’s Hospital.

Areas of expertise include; scheduling surgeries and procedures for patients awaiting for Cardiology treatment.

The service has three inpatient Cardiology & Cardiothoracic providing acute, specialist and post-surgical care to patients. There are two large dedicated Cardiology & Cardiothoracic outpatient departments, a day surgery unit and diagnostic unit from which Cardiology and Cardiothoracic services are provided. The post holder will work alongside their management colleagues and the lead consultants and nurses for the subspecialties they are responsible for.

The post holder will need to adhere to Trust policies, the 18 week RTT pathway, and Standard Operating Procedures.

…. Provide assurance of the accuracy and completeness of RTT patient pathways, and thus compliance with standards;

…. Able to Support administrative staff with responsibilities for recording and managing RTT pathways by providing expert knowledge of RTT rules and guidance in their application

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a comprehensive and efficient Trust-wide booking service for all patients awaiting elective treatment on the Inpatient, Day-case, and Planned Waiting Lists. 
  • To work with stakeholder services in order to help manage their waiting lists to ensure it is clean and without historic information
  • To ensure that admission requests are processed and booked in line with the Trust Access Policy. This requires both timely and accurate input of data onto the Patient Administration System (PAS) and other electronic and paper systems as required.
  • To work with stakeholder services to ensure patients are treated within target treatment dates
  • To recognise and correct errors in pathways on the Trust’s PAS system
  • To work as part of the Inpatient scheduling team to provide the best possible customer service for patients and colleagues

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of admissions and waiting list procedures equivalent to NVQ Level 4 which may have been gained through formal study or previous work experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Medical terminology

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to analyse reports and other sources of information and make judgements based on those reports.
  • Ability to plan and organise activities up to 13 weeks in advance (e.g. admission and appointment dates)
  • Good keyboard and IT skills
  • Ability to participate in team meetings and make suggestions as appropriate for changes to working practice and procedures based on personal experience and observation
  • Able to work to deadlines.

  • Knowledge of RTT And validating patient’s pathway

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of competence in literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of hospital Patient Administration System (PAS)
