Job overview

The General and Vascular Surgery Directorate is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and conscientious team player to join the service as a Ward Clerk for Vascular Surgery.

The Vascular Surgery is based across three sites (St Mary’s Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital) and is composed of multi-disciplinary teams who deliver 18,500 outpatient appointments, 960 daycases, 370 elective admissions and 720 non-elective admissions annually. The Vascular service provides treatment of conditions affecting arteries and veins throughout the body. We are also the only centre in London and the South of England to provide open thoracoabdominal aneurysm repair using techniques such as left heart bypass and full motor and sensory spinal monitoring.

Main duties of the job

  • Ward Clerks are integral members of the department and will be directly working with the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering high quality and safe administrative aspects of our neurology treatment unit.  Part of your working day will be making sure our elective patients are received and admitted on the unit, liaising with the scheduling team any issues pertaining to patient bookings or cancellations.
  • You will be working with another clerical/admin person in the team, so opportunities for a flexible working is available to make sure we have required cover across our operational hours. You will also have opportunities to upskill and take on extended roles e.g. supporting the unit through departmental procurement administrative work, as needed.
  • Our ward clerk will have a breadth of knowledge across the patient journey from scheduling to admission, and discharge providing holistic and person centred administrative support on our patient
  •   You are expected to be professionally accountable for own actions and to work within the guidelines, policies and procedures of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
  • You will support our nursing team and vascular ward management to ensure that the needs of our patients are placed at the centre of our service delivery
