Job overview
The King's Staff Bank are looking for experienced radiographers, able to assess and treat own workload of patients/clients and to ensure provision of the highest standards of patient care, including the legal documentation on the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) associated with each completed patient episode.
They will be able to work autonomously within their specialist areas, consulting senior staff as and when necessary, and will be accountable for their own professional actions. They will assess, manage and prioritise their caseload, giving advice and guidance to patients and other health care professionals.
The post holder will supervise teaching of Radiographers, Radiology Department Assistants and Student Radiographers as appropriate.
The post holder will assist in the timely, efficient and cost-effective management and operation of their specialist imaging sections. They will ensure the provision of the highest standards of patient care and will be actively involved in daily operation of the Department. This person will be working closely within a multidisciplinary team, deputising for the Clinical Specialist Radiographer in their absence.
Working hours: 8-6, 9-7 and 10-8, 4 days per week Mon-Fri
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a qualified Diagnostic Radiographer with active Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. Patient centred care will be at the forefront of the post holder’s clinical and professional practice and they will demonstrate clinical skills that provide the highest standards possible.
They will exercise adherence to patient confidentiality legislation and maintain information governance standards at all times. They will be proficient in the use of the departments Radiology Information System (EPIC) and Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) associated with each patient episode.
The post holder will be able to work autonomously and demonstrate the ability to prioritise their work in line with clinical need. The will be accountable for their own professional actions, operate within their scope of practice and will consult senior staff as and when necessary. They will work as part of the wider multidisciplinary team and will take into account the requirements of referring teams in the interests of patient care.
They will be responsible for the supervision and teaching of students, assistant practitioners, junior staff and colleagues as appropriate. The post holder will demonstrate a level of competency in line with King’s Radiography Competency Framework and is responsible for maintaining their own personal development with support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Act as Operator under IR(ME)R 2017 Radiation Regulations, assess the clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiation risk associated with the examination.
· Act as patient and staff advocate minimising their exposure to radiation.
· Provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of radiographic services to the agreed standards of the department taking account of the patient/client clinical, physical, emotional and cultural needs.
· Perform out of hours duties without supervision, often as the sole-worker.
· Monitor and adjust work priorities in conjunction with other professionals to take into account changing demands on the diagnostic services due to emergencies or increased demand from A&E, particularly during out of hours duties.
· Assess and treat own workload of patients, communicate work priorities, organising work load in conjunction with other team members.
· To work as part of a team within the respective work area.
· Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults to senior staff or directly to the manufacturer.
· To participate in the 24/7 departmental rota, being flexible in responding to service needs.

Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Evidenced radiographic skills and adaptive clinical practice
- Able to wear radiation protective clothing (0.5mm equivalents) and monitoring devices.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
- Knowledge of Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IRMER 2017)
- Experience in supervision and training of less experienced radiographers, students and departmental staff
- Understanding of clinical governance and adverse incident reporting
- Awareness of NHS targets relevant to the Radiology department.
Desirable criteria
- 18 months post graduate experience as a band 5 radiographer with some evidence of role extension or currently works as a band 6 radiographer in general and specialised imaging modalities.
- Evidence of participation in audit and research
- Evidenced experience in use of PACS, EPIC and other key IT systems
