Job overview
The Head of Nursing will report directly to the Divisional Chief Nurse and will provide senior nursing leadership across the Division and Trust supporting the delivery of a safe and effective service, supporting Matrons, Managers and staff across the Division and ensuring excellent patient experience.
Main duties of the job
The Neurosciences Directorate comprises of 165 inpatient beds, day unit and infusion lounge across St Georges Hospital and Queen Mary's Hospital Roehampton.
You would provide expertise and leadership in the implementation of NMC regulation and professional standards, effectively lead and manage a team to ensure contribution to and delivery of corporate objectives.
You will also be a highly visible, proactive, and accessible leader, acting as a clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of nursing care and service delivery, to nursing staff, patients, and the public.
Being an expert in individual area of expertise related to the Head of Nursing Role and undertake an active role in patient experience, working with the trust’s lead for patient experience, promoting and leading on safe patient centred care.
You are expected to participate in Senior Nurse presence at Weekends and Bank Holidays to provide 7-day leadership to support the Matron and Ward Nursing teams to improve patient and staff experience. expect all our staff to share the values that are important to the Trust, being Excellent, Kind, Responsible & Respectful, and behave in a way that reflect these.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Professional Leadership:
- Lead on a delegated area of work on behalf of the Divisional Chief Nurse to improve patient Safety, Quality and Experience.
- With Divisional Directors and leadership team formulate service redesign and relevant business cases for new models of working as required.
- Support the Divisional Chief Nurse in the monitoring and assurance of service delivery, including Patient Safety, Quality, Governance and Experience.
- To provide clear and consistent professional leadership to all nursing staff including CNS, advising, supporting and influencing leadership and development.
- Assist Human Resources and Lead CNS/ ANP by providing professional guidance in issues relating to the working practice or of a disciplinary nature.
- Where required lead on HR management processes and investigations.
- Provide leadership and support nurse development at all levels in the organisation.

- Current NMC registration & Significant management experience at band 8a/ Matron level in an acute NHS organisation

- Previous experience in a Corporate Role. Has Deputised for HON or Equivalent
