Job overview

North Central London Cancer Alliance (NCLCA) is looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our team in improving cancer outcomes for the population of North Central London.  

Reporting into the Programme Lead, the postholder will ensure robust implementation of current and upcoming projects. To succeed in this role, you will have experience of leading the delivery of projects, ensuring they reach key milestones and final completion, within assigned timescales.

You will be organised, proactive and motivated to achieve the best outcomes for patients. You will combine project management skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a practical mindset. The ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders is essential. The role is suitable for someone with a background in project management, public health or cancer services.

Main duties of the job

North Central London Cancer Alliance works closely with local partners and NHSE to support delivery of cancer screening services. It also works in collaboration with partners to improve screening participation and increase awareness of cancer signs and symptoms, to drive earlier diagnosis. Underpinning this work is the aim to tackle inequalities in outcomes, experience and access. 

The Senior Project Manager will be accountable for supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Alliance’s prevention, awareness and screening improvement portfolio. The role will need to work closely with population health teams in the local authorities, NCL ICB, voluntary sector organisations, academic partners and primary care. 

The main duties of the Senior Project Manager are: 

•    Project management and delivery – To develop and implement project plans and monitor their delivery
•    Stakeholder engagement – To forge and maintain effective working relationships across multiple partners in the NHS and local authorities in North Central London (the Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey)
•    Data analysis – To review and analyse data and present in an accessible format to multi-stakeholder groups
•    Communication – To represent the Alliance, communicate our work and write reports of a high standard 
•    Financial management – To be responsible for devolved budgets

Person specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a higher degree or significant equivalent experience
  • Project-management qualification or significant equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of issues in cancer care / services
  • Knowledge and experience of project management using tools such as PRINCE 2, MSP, etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of cancer pathways, and/or primary care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of running large scale projects/ programmes in a large, complex organisation or network/system
  • Successful record of managing and implementing substantial service transformation and organisational change projects
  • Significant experience of working with partners and stakeholders in delivering sensitive changes to services.
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders to inform and implement initiatives.
  • A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of large scale strategic plans
  • Experience of strategic planning and leading decision making in prioritisation of complex work flows
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of effective financial management
  • Experience of management within the NHS
