Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Consultant Neurophysiologist to join the friendly and cohesive Neurophysiology teams at St George’s University Hospitals and Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals.

This is a replacement of a current post and forms part of our regional network in Neurophysiology, ensuring best practice and common governance standards across the SW London and Surrey region.  St George’s Hospital is the tertiary neuroscience centre within this network.

There is diverse expertise across the region with a strong record in teaching, training and research.  The post holder will be expected to carry out out-patient and in-patient EMG, EEG and video-telemetry reporting.

Main duties of the job

Neurophysiology at St George’s Hospital is part of the Department of Neurology, Neurosciences Directorate and is staffed by both clinical neurophysiologists and neurologists. The St George’s department provides all core neurophysiology investigations, while also providing EEG video telemetry for the region and other specialised investigations including single fibre EMG, magnetic stimulation and pelvic floor neurophysiology. Clinical neurophysiologists participate in specialised neurology services for epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, peripheral nerve and muscle disorders and EMG guided botulinum toxin injections. The department also provides neurophysiology services for the department of Paediatric Neurology, including the Special Care Baby Unit.

The current department comprises 1 full time Consultant Neurophysiologist and 5 part-time Consultant Neurophysiologists

Working for our organisation

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
