Team Lead Neonatal Physiotherapist

Job overview
The post holder will be employed by King’s College Hospital (KCH) NHS Foundation Trust to work as part of the Acute Paediatric Therapy Team and Neonatal Therapy Team. They will provide a specialist neonatal physiotherapy service on the busy Level 3 Neonatal Unit at King’s College Hospital, including provision to the Local Neonatal Unit at PRUH. The Neonatal Units provide specialist medical and surgical services to premature and sick newborn infants requiring intensive care, high dependency care, special care and neurodevelopmental follow-up.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will use highly specialist knowledge and skills to manage their own complex caseload autonomously and take a lead in respiratory care, neurodevelopmental care and early intervention on the Neonatal Units cross site.
This post provides clinical supervision to the Rotational Band 6 physiotherapist and will deputise for and support the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in their absence.
The post holder will be expected to represent the neonatal physiotherapy team and the wider neonatal and paediatric therapy team at relevant meetings, and will advise on service developments in line with policy development.
The post holder will be expected to take an active lead on the implementation of local clinical governance initiatives, evidence based practice (EBP) and clinical audit, as well as supporting the unit with developmental care and a family integrated approach to care.
The post requires a flexible approach to working and an ability to work closely as part of a multi-disciplinary therapy team and take part in the trust on call rota and the paediatric weekend rota

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc / Post graduate diploma in Physiotherapy
- Current HCPC registration
- Post graduate training relevant to clinical area, as demonstrated by ongoing CPD, reflective practice, evidence-based projects.
Desirable criteria
- To have undertaken one or more post graduate qualifications specific to neonatal care eg. Prechtl General Movement Assessment, LAPI, Bayley III, FINE 1
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post graduate experience in neonatal physiotherapy
- Wide ranging post graduate experience in general paediatrics (including Acute Respiratory/PICU, Neurology, Community, MSK and Rehab)
- Specialist knowledge of a broad range of paediatric neonatal conditions and problems including neurology, respiratory management, orthopaedic and early intervention for high risk and preterm infants.
- Experience of /competent to take part in an on call and weekend physiotherapy rota
- Knowledge and application of paediatric and neonatal neurodevelopmental standardised assessments and outcome measures
- Experience of working in the NHS and understands structure and current issues.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of the APCP good practice document and NICE guidelines for both inpatient and follow up care of Neonates
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Specialist skills treating a broad range of paediatric neonatal conditions and problems including neurology, respiratory management, orthopaedic and early intervention for high risk and preterm infants.
- Able to teach and pass skills to others
- Able to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary team and understand roles of MDT and own role within MDT
Other
Essential criteria
- Able to work effectively in busy and stressful environment coping with frequent periods of interruption, remaining approachable and supportive
- Able to give clear, concise written and verbal reports in English and to record all physiotherapy interventions according to trust policy
- Demonstrates leadership attributes and motivational skills
- Able to organize own workload, and that of junior staff, using prioritisation and delegation skills to support workers
