Job overview

We are excited to share an available Fixed term 12 months secondment Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse role on Charles Pannett Ward. We welcome applications from both existing Band 6 staff and experienced Band 5 who are dynamic leaders and would like to develop to Band 6.

Charles Pannett Ward is based at St Mary’s Hospital and is a 24 bedded Acute Surgical Ward. We specialize in providing high quality care to patients undergoing general and specialist emergency surgery. Becoming a nurse on Charles Pannett Ward will enable you to develop experience, skills and competence within General, Trauma, Orthopaedics, Vascular, Neurosurgical and Plastics specialties. We expect staff to have experience / competence in clinical skills such as Parental Nutrition, PCAs, Epidurals, VAC Dressings and Tracheostomy care.

With the collaboration of the Ward Matron and Clinical Practice Educator, we have a strong focus on developing our staff. We welcome applications with the following criteria:

  • Mentorship training – SSSA / SSSS
  • ‘Nurse in charge’ Competencies completed
  • Quality improvement and audit opportunities
  • Attendance on specialty related conferences
  • Participation on Link Nurse/ Champion Groups
  • Comprehensive development programme including leadership courses

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients that is compassionate and caring.
  • To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate them without supervision
  • To assist in leading and monitoring the performance of the nursing team
  • To deputise for the Senior Nurse when required
