Job overview

Evergreen is a recently developed specialist Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) unit in Luton. In 2021, NHS England confirmed additional funding to develop an interim acute mental health inpatient unit for Children and Young People in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.

The development of Evergreen has been done in conjunction with children, parents and carers who have experience of in-patient admission. Young people are helping us plan the ethos of the unit, recruit the staff and think about how we can deliver the best care.

Main duties of the job

Evergreen  provides specialist, short-term care for children and young people aged 13-17 with severe or complex mental health difficulties. You will be working alongside a diverse multidisciplinary team that reflects the population that we serve. Our vision is to make a positive difference in Young Peoples lives by providing the highest quality mental health service to our local communities, to help them overcome some of life's challenges.

We are looking  for a fantastic  Support Worker to undertake direct or indirect care of a patient/ group of patients aged between 13-17 yrs, as part of the team, under the supervision of registered nurses within Evergreen.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ in care level 2/3 or equivalent experience
  • GCSE level experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 6 months clinical experience in area of speciality or sufficient transferable skills

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Motivated and committed to working in Mental Health Care
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to undertake physical tasks involving patient care
  • Have an understanding of the importance of cultural and other differences in caring for patients in a safe and sensitive manner
  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of children and adolescents with mental health problems

Other

Essential criteria
  • Required to work shifts as part of internal rotation, including night duty
  • Ability to cope under pressure in stressful situations.
