The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance and advice on promoting high quality health, public health and social care.

As an equal opportunities employer we are committed to creating a inclusive environment and welcome everyone from all backgrounds to apply so we can continue to create a workforce which is representative of the communities we serve.

If you are suitably qualified and have an interest in remote, hybrid, full time or part time working we encourage you to get in touch as we are happy to discuss potential flexible working opportunities.

We have modern offices in Manchester city centre and Stratford, London.  Please take into consideration that you may be required to commute to one of our offices for business purposes if necessary.

Job overview

Are you interested in the commercial side of health technology assessment? Do you have experience of working with health economic models? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a senior technical analyst to join the Commercial Liaison Team at NICE, providing us with a wide range of technical expertise on many aspects of commercial risk.

Reporting to the technical adviser – commercial liaison, the senior technical analyst will be responsible for providing technical expertise on the commercial elements of health technology assessment. This includes evaluating the commercial risk and opportunities for a range of topics in the NICE technology appraisals and highly specialised technologies work programme, manipulating economic models to assess the impact of changing model inputs and assumptions and developing technically accurate commercial briefing documents.

Role can be undertaken as fixed term contract or secondment.

Main duties of the job

The senior technical analyst plays a key role in providing technical expertise on the commercial elements of health technology assessment, working alongside the technical adviser on a portfolio of projects.

This role involves:

•    translating NICE committee conclusions on clinical and cost-effectiveness into commercially related advice that supports commercial discussions between NHS England and technology developers
•    identifying and assessing the commercial risk of technology appraisal topics
•    supporting committee appraisal teams to understand important issues which may have an impact on commercial opportunities, including medicines pricing
•    maintaining effective working relationships with the NHS England Medicines Value and Access team and with technology developers.

The post holder will regularly work with economic models for a range of technologies in different disease areas. They will be required to confidently manipulate economic models to assess the impact that changing the model inputs and assumptions has on the cost-effectiveness results. They will also summarise complex information in briefing documents, ensuring technical accuracy and relevance of the information.

Working for our organisation

The NICE Commercial Liaison Team (CLT) provides an interface between NICE guidance production and the NHS England Commercial Directorates to ensure that:
•    the value judgements made by NICE committees in the development of guidance are effectively translated and incorporated into those used in related commercial engagements led by NHS England;
•    NHS England are supported in understanding the impact of these judgements on the commercial arrangements they are developing with manufacturers;
•    commercial arrangements are assessed to ensure they do not introduce unduly complex monitoring, disproportionate additional costs, burden and bureaucracy to the NHS;
•    there is alignment between NHS England and NICE guidance production processes that supports timely access for patients to cost-effective and affordable technologies.

Benefits:
•    We offer a range of benefits including the NHS pension scheme and staff discounts
•    We provide a thorough induction programme
•    Personal development is supported through extensive training and development opportunities
•    We promote flexible working to help staff achieve a healthy work life balance
