Specialty Doctor 10 Sessions per week 

 

We are looking for a new Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT).

You will provide high quality assessment, consultation and treatment to service users who are in a mental health crisis. The post will be based at Eaglestone Health Centre on Milton Keynes Hospital Campus and there is office space and administration support provided.

The post-holder will be part of a medical team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Trainee Doctor.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to patients suffering with mental health problems.  He/she will have experience of team working, possess sound organisation skills and be able to work on their own initiative.  Effective communication and empathic skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

Recording Clinical Coding (Diagnosis) on patient records

Requesting relevant Investigations such as Blood tests, ECGs, MRI Brain scans where appropriate

Ensuring relevant baseline investigations prior to starting psychopharmacological interventions

Discharging medical prescribing functions as needed in the team. This may involve:

Providing FP10s

Writing medication charts

Initiating, reviewing and advising on psychopharmacological interventions as appropriate

Relevant liaison with pharmacists who carry out weekly screening of drug charts

Reconciling medication for patients seen through relevant use of GP summary care records, progress notes on patient records, medication charts

Identifying need for referrals to other services such as referrals for psychological interventions

Reviewing treatment plans and risk assessments of patients in the service

Providing support and advice to MDT colleagues and liaison with other professionals as required

Chairing MDT clinical meetings during consultant’s leave and reviewing minutes of those meetings

Ensuring appropriate handover takes place during involvement in the assessment of patients referred from the ward.

Ensuring comprehensive documentation on patient records following patient assessments, telephone calls/other liaison with professionals.

Clinic letters to GPs must be dictated within a week of seeing patients.

Supporting the trainee doctor as required for example during the consultant’s leave

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assessment, diagnosis, formulation of risks and development of a management plan for new referrals, re-referrals and patients under the care of the team. Referrals can come into the team from any service including GPs, A&E psychiatric liaison, inpatient wards, community mental health services etc. Some assessments and reviews take place at the team base, others take place in patient homes/in ward settings. Relevant travel time will be factored in while arranging home visits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY

Essential criteria
  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • ► GMC Licence to Practise
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to (own specialty)

CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a fixed term trainee or as a Specialty Doctor on a part time or flexible basis in the field of general adult psychiatry.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in working in a community mental health team/primary care mental health

PERSONAL SKILLS & QUALITIES

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and empathic skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Timely and effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, carers, colleagues and multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Experience of team working

  • Ability to work on own initiative, making evidence-based decisions
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit/QI Experience
