Have you completed your Band 5 core rotations including Paediatrics? Are you interested in specializing in Paediatrics? We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated Physiotherapist, with a high level of Band 5 skills, to join our new Community Health Service in Merton Borough.

We provide community services across Merton and are recruiting to a range of roles in these new services and are looking for the best community clinicians to join our expanding teams. Main duties of the job

Your role will involve working with children from birth to 19 years, with a range of neurological, neurodevelopmental, and coordination disorders. The service is delivered in a variety of settings, including community clinics, in patient homes and schools.

You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Merton Community services and with outside services to deliver physiotherapy advice and treatment meeting the needs of children and young people. You will have had experience of working with children in the community setting or similar and your communication and team working skills will be excellent. 

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of children to provide assessment, treatment planning and delivery and reviews.

We are committed to professional development and evidence-based practice, offering regular in-service training and peer group / one to one supervision. Internal and external courses are supported.

You will be required to have at substantial experience working as a practitioner with appropriate transferable skills working with children, engagement in post graduate training and education in areas related to working with neuro developmental conditions is desirable. You should have experience of engaging in appraisal processes and be willing to further develop clinical skills

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post-holder’s own work and to be 
    responsible for informing their senior of any areas in which they lack experience or knowledge.
  • To assess, treat and manage a caseload of patients appropriate to the clinical area in a range of settings
  • To provide written advice for inclusion in the statutory process for Education Health and Care Plans 
    (EHCP) in line with the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Code of Practice

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
  • Member of professional body; e.g. CSP
  • Membership of Specialist interest group eg APCP
  • Attendance at workshops/seminars in paediatric Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive Post-graduate physiotherapist experience covering core rotations including Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Respiratory and Neurology
  • Experience of working with people with a wide range of permanent disabilities and short-term illness
  • Experience in working with clients with neurological/musculoskeletal impairment
  • Experience working with tertiary or voluntary community-based services
  • Experience working with clients from diverse cultures.
  • Understanding of cultural differences and their impact service provision.
  • Experience of working with children within a physiotherapy setting
  • Ability to supervise junior staff/ assistant/ students
  • Ability to delegate tasks
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of core rotations including respiratory/ orthopaedic/ neuro/ MSK
  • Experience of working in health/social care in the community.
  • Experience with the NHS patient information database (e.g. EMIS/SystmOne).
  • Experience of working in special and mainstream schools
  • Experience of psychosocial aspects of working with families of children with disabilities

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of the developmental stages of children and young people
  • Ability to assess and use clinical and ethical reasoning skills to analyse and interpret assessment findings, plan and evaluate intervention programmes
  • Good knowledge of legislation relating to child health.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with parents, carers and professionals
  • Ability to teach Parents, children and other professionals relevant physiotherapy programmes
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team and with a range of professionals and statutory bodies
  • Effective written and spoken communication skills with competency in IT skills for reports, advice/activity suggestions and record keeping
  • Ability to manage own caseload and prioritize work within a variable and changing daily pattern
  • Ability to manage own time and work within set deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands
  • Calm and consistent approach to stressful situations
  • Candidates should have emotional integrity and demonstrate ability to cope with difficult/highly emotive situations
  • Ability to problem-solve, organise, prioritise and demonstrate sound judgement
  • Participate and contribute in In-service training and training of other professionals needs
  • Ability to work independently across a variety of community settings including patient’s homes, schools and nursery environments
  • Ability to demonstrate on-going CPD and the use of evidence based practice

  • Good understanding of family-centred practice

  • Experience of teaching/ presentation skills appropriate for teaching professionals and peers in an in-service training setting
