Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for the role of a Patient Blood Management Practitioner on a 15months fixed term to join the Hospital Transfusion Team at UCLH Foundation Trust. We are looking to appoint an experienced, dynamic nurse with a significant post registration experience of blood & blood product transfusion practice, in the clinical setting.

This position requires a flexible, confident individual who can demonstrate excellent communication & interpersonal skills. You will be expected to consult with all levels of staff involved in the transfusion process across the Trust. The ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team is essential.

This post has a Trust wide remit which includes transfusion education / training of clinical staff, risk management and clinical audit. The role will be crucial working across the trust to promote better use of blood and blood products and educating and prompting use of alternatives to transfusion.

Together with the Transfusion Practitioners, you will be promoting awareness of the current regulatory and statutory requirements that impact on transfusion practice & support the delivery of measures to ensure compliance. Appropriate experience is required.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered general Nurse
  • Relevant post-registration/graduate programme
  • Relevant post registration experience in relevant specialty
  • Completed/completing master’s degree or can provide evidence of relevant equivalent experience / training whilst working at a senior level.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/Assessment programme
  • Leadership development programme/ experience
  • Management development programme/ experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in the specialty with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Evidence of developing & leading nurse led services/ clinics.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Previous experience of formal & informal teaching of patients & staff.
  • Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
  • Skills in critical analysis and application of research to practice
  • Previous experience of developing standards, guidelines, and policies
  • Previous experience in audit and evaluation of practice / services
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor
  • Published articles / poster presentations.
