Main duties of the job
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for alcohol dependent patients with complex needs, making necessary adjustments.
- Identify patients at high risk from their alcohol use using the AUDIT assessment and take appropriate action in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Deliver evidence-based interventions, including motivational interviewing and withdrawal management, to support patients in reducing alcohol-related harm.
- Educate patients and families about healthy lifestyles and managing risks to health and well-being.
- Ensure accurate, up-to-date documentation using electronic health records and maintain compliance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
- Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external organizations, using strategies to overcome barriers and promote continuity of care.
- Support research, audits, and quality initiatives to enhance patient care and nursing practice.
- Oversee the delivery of a 7-day alcohol care service model to ensure consistent and equitable coverage for patients across all settings.

Essential criteria
- Registered nurse/mental health nurse
- Course undertaken relating to interventions in alcohol misuse
Desirable criteria
- Relevant addiction experience /experience in delivering psychosocial interventions with patients
- Non-medical prescribing qualification (e.g. V300)

- Knowledge of current and emerging policies and strategies relating to alcohol care standards
- Awareness of how to identify and reduce risks of alcohol-related harm

- Can prove a basic computer literacy in Windows and IT systems
