Job overview

Due to career progression, an exciting opportunity has come up as a Senior Occupational Therapist Band 6 in a mixed rotation. The rotations are across the following clinical areas:

·         Older Adults- acute short stay admissions;

·         Stroke Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and Stroke Rehabilitation

·         Trauma Orthopaedics & Surgery

·         Respiratory Medicine

·         Renal Medicine

·         Emergency services (A&E);

·         Acute Frailty admissions

·    Level 1B Consortium Neurological Rehabilitation unit – Frank Cooksey based at  Orpington Hospital

·         Frailty rehabilitation unit - based at Orpington Hospital

·         Elective Orthopaedics - based at Orpington Hospital

·         Neurosurgery and level 2B neuro rehabilitation- based at Orpington Hospital

 

Main duties of the job

Including:

1 To identify, prioritise and manage patients presenting with impairments for Occupational Therapy intervention. 

2.            To assess and treat patients with complex needs who would benefit from a co-ordinated multidisciplinary assessment, rehabilitation and discharge service.

3.            To be competent in the administration of specific Occupational Therapy assessments of motor, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, psychosocial and functional areas.

4.            To be competent in the development and implementation of remedial and preventative treatment programmes addressing motor, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, psychosocial and functional areas, both individually and in group settings.

5.            To work closely with patients and carers to incorporate service users views in the setting of goals, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes.

1.            To conduct risk assessments and implement risk management strategies including the use of Therapeutic Manual Handling techniques and the Lone Working Policy.

2.            To assess and demonstrate to clients the safe use of equipment and adaptations and recommend provision thereof.  To advise carers on the safe use of equipment.

3.            To participate in the planning, evaluation and audit of practice, clinical pathways and protocols within the Occupational Therapy Service with a view to measuring efficiency and ensuring high quality standards.

4.            To participate in the delivery of the Occupational Therapy Service development plan.

5.            To supervise and provide support for Occupational Therapists (Band 5), Occupational Therapy Students, Occupational Therapy Assistants and Technicians as instructed by the Head of Occupational Therapy.
