We have rotations across a broad range of specialities and our successful programme is designed to offer extensive clinical experience, providing high quality pharmaceutical care to patients across all sites of the Trust, giving you the skills, knowledge and understanding of the different pharmacy services in both a district general and teaching hospital setting. 

This well-established programme has been designed to support both your clinical and personal development as a senior pharmacist in a fast-paced, dynamic and inclusive environment. The rotation is built around structured objectives, designed to ensure that you gain experience and skills whilst being a valued member of the MDT, contributing to the departmental and Trust priorities.

The successful applicant will be a real team player with significant clinical experience as a registered hospital pharmacist, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong commitment to life-long learning and meticulous attention to detail.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a hard-working and highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join us in our Band 7 rotational programme.

This post’s base site and initial rotation will be at our Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) but rotations across all sites will available thereafter. Rotations specific to the PRUH include:

  • acute and emergency medicine
  • general medicine
  • specialist medicine
  • frailty medicine
  • gastroenterology and clinical nutrition
  • stroke
  • surgery
  • women’s and children’s
  • patient services and clinical services.

Other cross-site rotations include anticoagulation, cardiology, medicines finance, hepatology, neurosciences, medicines finance, sexual health, cancer & aseptics, projects, gastroenterology and surgery.

This post would be suitable for an individual who is looking to develop their clinical skills across a range of specialities, as well as their leadership and managerial skills.

Key activities of the post holder in each rotation will be to:

  • Act as a specialist practitioner and role model and manage the day-to-day pharmaceutical care of patients in the speciality
  • Attend daily consultant ward rounds in specific rotations
  • Respond to clinical queries both internally and externally
  • Produce monthly financial and activity reports including monitoring of cost savings initiatives
  • Conduct research and audit projects
  • Participate in activities such as risk management, clinical guideline development and staff training.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification / experience
