Job overview

Due to the external promotion of the current postholder we are looking for a part time, permanent, Band 3 Library Assistant based at NELFT's main Library, CEME in Rainham..  This post is 0.7 WTE or 26.25 hours per week. Hours to be worked between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Working pattern to be discussed and agreed.  This post could be suitable for someone enrolled or considering enrolling on a postgraduate qualification in librarianship or a related related discipline. This post provides considerable opportunities for formal and informal development.

NELFT Library & Knowledge Service supports provision of high quality health care by enabling access to the best available evidence and empowering staff to develop their evidence based practice skills. We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer service orientated individual to join our small, busy team.

You must :

  • Have experience of working in a library or a related information service
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office & using the internet
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Have excellent attention to detail

The main responsibilities of the post are: providing frontline library and knowledge services to users, including answering enquiries, triaging emails, processing document supply requests, lending and shelving books.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

 

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

 

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,551 to a maximum of £5,735).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Work as part of the Library and Knowledge Services Team to continually improve and maintain high standards.

To understand and practice all relevant Trust and library policies and procedures

Actively contribute to the development and review of library policies and procedures based upon best practice.

Evaluate the quality of own work, making improvements when necessary.

Raise quality issues and related risks with the Head of Knowledge & Library Services

Attend appropriate training events to ensure that own knowledge and skills are constantly updated.

Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within the agreed time scale.

Report all complaints and or incidents in accordance with Trust procedures and ensure that the Head of Knowledge and Library Services is informed.

To treat library users with dignity and respect at all times.
