Band 6 Specialist Dietitian Gastroenterology
Band 6
PEOPLE are at the HEART of everything we do
This video gives a flavour of what it is like to work at our Trust and why some of our staff love working here 💙
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our team of friendly Dietitians and Assistant at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust. We are one of the busiest acute trusts in London, based across Queen’s Hospital in Romford, and King George Hospital in Goodmayes. Our department includes Dietitians with specialist skills in the areas of Oncology, Complex Nutrition Support, Stroke and Neurosciences, Critical Care and Paediatrics.
This post provides a dietetic service to the gastroenterology and surgical wards at Queens Hospital, as well as a fortnightly outpatient IBS clinic. It is a busy inpatient workload including post-surgical complications, stomas, pancreatitis, IBD and liver disease. Liaising closely with the nutrition support team and wider MDT, you will have supervision and guidance from a specialist band 7dietitian with support from a band 5 dietitian.
We are a progressive, forward thinking Trust and you will be expected to take an active role in the training of dietetic, medical and nursing staff, service development and service improvement including audit. We are committed to professional and personal development and you will benefit from many opportunities to develop and enhance the Dietetic Service whilst being supported in your own career development.
This is a post for an ambitious, innovative and motivated team player with excellent communication skills, who is also able to work independently.
Main duties of the job
To deliver a high quality, evidence-based Nutrition and Dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients for Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT)
To be responsible for providing specialist nutritional care for a defined area; including assessment, dietary therapy and monitoring to inpatients, outpatients and their carers. The defined area includes, but is not limited to, gastroenterology and liver disease, as well as care of the elderly, general medical and surgical wards
To act as a source of dietary expertise for colleagues and other health care professionals across the organisation.
To work as integral part of the Dietetic team in ensuring that the service is fully covered over the periods of leave
To contribute to the Trust clinical governance programme by participating in audits, development and implementation of evidence based guidelines/protocols/policies and continuing professional development
Working for our organisation
We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.
Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.
We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.
We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
