Job overview

Do you have a passion for training and developing others? If so, this rewarding role could be just what you are looking for! Come and join our supportive and friendly pharmacy department.

We have an exciting opportunity for a GPhC registered Pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Education and Training Team.

You will have a key role in shaping the delivery of training programmes within the pharmacy department; providing support to trainees and all staff involved in their supervision.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who enjoys working as part of a team and has exceptional organisational skills. You must have a sound clinical background, be a great ‘people person’ and have the ambition to develop staff and services.

You will retain your clinical skills by having a patient-facing / ward role, working under the direction of a designated Clinical Care Group Lead Pharmacist.

Applicants will have completed the Post Graduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent) and should have experience of training others in a pharmacy setting, preferably in a UK hospital.

Although primarily based at Queen’s Hospital, Romford, there will be a requirement to work cross-site and so ability to travel to all premises that BHRUT provides pharmaceutical services is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the Pharmacy Education & Training Team.

They will support the co-ordination, implementation, development, and delivery of training programmes for all pharmacy trainees, primarily Trainee Pharmacists (TPs) and Foundation Pharmacists (FPs).

They will work closely with senior members of the Pharmacy E&T Team and the wider pharmacy team to develop and support learners and supervisors, and to ensure an effective, inclusive and innovative learning environment and culture.

The post holder will act as an Educational Supervisor, Practice Supervisor and/or Expert Witness as required.

The post holder will provide clinical ward pharmacy services to under the direction of a designated Clinical Care Group Lead Pharmacist. He/she will work closely with senior colleagues and clinical technicians to ensure the provision of an integrated and efficient service.

There will be an equal split between the time spent on Education and Training responsibilities and Patient Care responsibilities.

Working for our organisation

We provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Most of our 7,800 permanent staff live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals and we operate from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We’re pleased to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is one of eight to be accredited as part of a national scheme; the Care Quality Commission has raised the ratings for urgent and emergency care at Queen’s and King George hospitals; and data released by NHS England showed that the Trust was the most improved in 2023 for reducing waits for emergency care.

We are particularly proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre; Radiotherapy Centre; Hyper Acute Stroke Unit; and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
