Job overview

An exciting opening has arisen for a part-time Associate Orthopaedic Technician - Band Four to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic Plaster and Splinting  Service.  This position will provide an opportunity to work closely with our expereinced and friendly team of technicians.  In this role you will work with our experienced technicians providing a vital plaster and splinting service for our Trust. 
 
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and teamworking skills and, proactively engage with various members of staff, patients and their carers.  This is an extremely busy department and the postholder will work in all areas which will include Fracture, Orthopaedic, Specialist Paediatric, Wards and our Telephone Fracture Clinics. The department attends Wards, Theatres and Emergency Department as requested.  This post offers a great opportunity to develop new skills as well as updating existing.  Full training and support wil be given where needed.

Main duties of the job

This post is part of the team of Orthopaedic Practitioners within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department providing a casting and splinting service in support of Fracture, Orthopaedic and other Clinicians and Departments within the Trust.   To assist the Orthopaedic Practitioners in the delivery of a high standard of expertise in casting and plastering techniques, off the shelf orthotics, basic wound care which includes removal of suture and staples as well as providing patients with relevant information and documentation to support treatment.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
