Job overview

We are looking for applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health professionals who are committed in promoting patient focused care and treatment for adults in mental health crisis.  We currently advertising for  (1 full time and 1 part time (22hrs) permanent positions. The successful candidates will work across BHRUT acute hospitals (namely King George and Queen's).

Main duties of the job

  Key responsibilities include:

  • To provide comprehensive psychosocial and emergency mental health assessments to mental health patients over the age of 18 years old who presents to the emergency department and other clinical units.
  • To engage challenging and/or acutely disturbed service users in potentially hostile and antagonistic situations.
  • To arrange appropriate inpatient admission via the correct pathways where required.
  • To be responsible for monitoring a small caseload of clients occasionally.
  • To participate in clinical supervision and promote best practice.
  • To keep the Clinical Lead and the Service Manager informed of developments, incidents etc.
  • To initiate and participate in audit and/or quality improvement projects associated with the work of the PLS.
  • To occasionally take responsibility and deputise for the Clinical Lead in order to ensure the on-going management of the service and adherence to NELFT and BHRUT policies and procedures.
  • To actively promote integrated health professional working internally and externally.
  • To facilitate the development of a positive and ‘supportive’ team culture by taking responsibility for dealing effectively with potential conflict.
  • To contribute to the planning and delivery of training/teaching to members of the multi-disciplinary team, BHRUT colleagues and outside agencies.
  • To provide mentorship and preceptorship to students and newly qualified staff from their professional group.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.  Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.   All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process, new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High-Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436)  and pro rata for part time.
