Do you have a passion for 24-hour postural care in learning disabilities? An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and self-motivated Physiotherapist to be part of our dynamic and enthusiastic specialist Adult Learning Disability Community team based at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup.
The team provides multi-disciplinary specialist health care to adults with learning disabilities across the Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich boroughs. In 2016, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the Oxleas ALD service as ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ in the care domain.
The post holder will have a varied clinical caseload and will work with both qualified and unqualified physio staff. They will also lead on the development of a postural care pathway for adults with LD across the three boroughs. Postgraduate experience working in LD at a senior level and broad experience working within a disciplinary team is required. The post-holder also needs to have completed post-graduate training in posture management.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as an integral member of the Learning Disabilities Team but will have specific responsibility for the delivery of physiotherapy service and development and maintenance of a postural care pathway.
The duties will be undertaken in a variety of community settings depending on client needs and comprise assessment, treatment and physical management of clients with complex needs in conjunction with parents, carers, members of the CLDT and other agencies.
The post holder will have a leadership role in the Clinical Governance issues relating to best practice including the provision of teaching and training of junior staff, other health professionals and carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To be accountable for the planning and delivery of the physiotherapy service for adults with learning disability in Bexley and Greenwich.
- To manage referrals to physiotherapy.
- As the lead Physiotherapist, identify issues relating to client management and care, standardise procedures, develop local guidelines and assist in teaching and training of care staff.
- To act as a resource to the rest of the L.D Team and to others regarding `physiotherapy input and management of adults with learning disabilities.
- To be responsible for provision of highly specialised assessment, treatment and management of adults with learning disability who present with a wide variety of conditions. These include chronic, complex, disabling and life limiting conditions.
- To support and take part in clinical governance promoting high quality service and to ensure clinical effectiveness, evidence-based practice and outcome measures are embedded in the practice of physiotherapy in the area of L.D.
- To maintain a clinical caseload and demonstrate advanced skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate, coordinated strategies for caseload and workload management.
- To write reports reflecting expert knowledge and to ensure that physiotherapy written and electronic activity data (RIO) is kept up to date in accordance with professional and Trust standards.

- Recognised Physiotherapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
- Registered Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP)
- Experiential training to demonstrate highly specialist physiotherapy skills in adults with learning disability
- Health Professionals Council Licence to practice
- Post Graduate Study completed in Specialist Postural Care Management
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 4 years varied experience and 2 years as senior practitioner in relevant clinical area.
- Experience of developing and delivering training
- Sound understanding of adult protection procedures.
- Awareness and acceptance of cultural diversity
