An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work as part of the Bromley Adult Learning Disabilities Team. The post is based at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and provides a service across the Borough of Bromley.  

The post requires a person with excellent skills in partnership working; delivering occupation focussed assessment and interventions; clinical reasoning, the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, clearly communicate the occupational therapy role and work to others.  The post holder’s work will include elements from each of the four pillars of practice with the emphasis for each pillar identified within the job description.

The services within the Adult Learning Disability Directorate focus on improving health, well-being and health outcomes.  There is a strong commitment to reducing health inequalities and poorer health outcomes for people with learning disabilities.  

Professional support and supervision for the post will be provided from the Band 7 OT leading the Bromley team.  

As a directorate we fully support undergraduate OT training programmes and accept students on practice placements as part of the London wide Fair Share model.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To manage a specialist clinical caseload, working independently and without direct supervision.
  • To provide occupation focussed assessment and intervention(s).
  • To ensure clinical safety through contribution to and carrying out risk assessments, risk management plans, crisis plans and care plans.
  • To ensure that up to date electronic and written records are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • To supervise the work of support workers, band 5 occupational therapists and occupational therapy students on practice placement as required.
  • To participate in service development and research/ audit activities.
  • To work as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist occupational therapy advice.

  • Evidence of CPD

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate understanding of assessing and delivery of Occupational Therapy
  • Knowledge of current Occupational Therapy literature, frames of reference and models of intervention
  • Specialist knowledge and application of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions relevant to Adult Learning Disabilities
Desirable criteria
  • Applying and interpreting standardised Occupational Therapy assessments
  • Advice & support of junior staff and/or students

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
  • Knowledge of standardised assessments and outcome measures used in Adult Learning Disability services.
