Specialty Doctor

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialist Grade

Job overview

The post-holder will work with other members of the MDT, including nursing, psychology, social work, and support workers, monitoring individuals’ safety, providing a range of social, psychological, and medication-based interventions, and working closely with families and carers.

The team works closely with the unit’s two inpatient wards, Lesney and Millbrook, assisting the unit’s management team with their active bed-management programme, facilitating early discharge, and with community teams to help prevent unnecessary hospital admission. The post holder will provide, working with team colleagues, rapid medical assessments of mental state and risk, where appropriate, assist with formulating and diagnosing patients’ difficulties in a holistic manner, and instigate appropriate care packages.

Main duties of the job

• Support to the consultant and the HTT in developing and maintaining the caseloads of all patients on the caseload ensuring that Core Assessments, Risk Assessments and Care Plans are available in RiO case records

• Provision of reviews, and home assessment sessions, including Mental Health Act, where necessary to the HTT

• Development of comprehensive case-note summaries, comprehensive multi-axial assessment processes and care planning in line with NICE Guidelines

• To attend relevant HTT meetings

• To ensure the involvement of families and carers, wherever possible, with the patient’s consent in treatment planning.

• To support the consultant in preparing any necessary reports, and attending Mental Health Review Tribunals (although this is a very infrequent occurrence in the HTT)

• To support the consultant to ensure that all Relapse Prevention and Crisis Plans for patients on Enhanced CPA are available in RiO case records and are updated

• Providing clinical cover for the consultant, when she/he is away on leave, with supervision by another consultant.
