The Trust is looking for a Data Quality Officer to help ensure that data recorded in the hospital information systems achieves the highest possible level of accuracy, completeness and timeliness. Working within the Data Quality team, this role is responsible for designing and carrying out checks on key hospital data, identifying issues and ensuring a satisfactory resolution. The postholder will develop an in-depth understanding of the Trust’s systems and data entry processes, and through routine checks and corrective action will help to identify themes and root causes of issues which will lead to system changes, training programmes and other remedial actions.
The successful applicant will be organised and methodical and must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously and proactively. They must have excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel, the ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of people and explain complex problems simply. They will have a working knowledge of NHS data and terminology.

Main duties of the job
1.1 To ensure Trust systems hold high quality administrative and clinical patient data by running routine checks and reports to identify errors and inconsistencies and providing feedback on problem areas
1.2 To help identify where data quality improvements can be made, to contribute to a good information culture providing support to staff where required, and acting as an ambassador for high Data Quality standards in the Trust

2.1 Responding to requests and resolving queries received verbally, via email and routine reports on a daily basis. Liaise with Medical Secretaries, Administrative staff, Clinical Business Unit management teams and clinicians to resolve problems of missing, incomplete, inconsistent or ambiguous data
2.2 Performing routine Data Quality checks on data entered onto the Epic system
2.3 Liaise with the Information team to resolve queries where required
2.4 Perform monthly Data Quality checks on HCAI data recorded on the external HCAI DCS website and liaise with the Infection Control team prior to senior management sign-off
2.5 Run routine Data Quality reports from the Epic system on errors or inconsistencies in administrative patient and activity recording data, to ensure that data recorded meets national standards. Apply value judgement, knowledge of NHS Data Definitions and hospital procedures in interpreting these reports to identify the source of errors
2.6 Participate in processes to ensure that errors are corrected and documented; escalating any issues to the Data Quality Manager as necessary.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to at least GCSE/A level
Desirable criteria
- ECDL or higher certification
- Degree or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good understanding of medical terminology
- Experience of working with Hospital Information Systems and NHS data or equivalent
- Experience working in the NHS
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a Data Quality role
Skills Abilities/knowledge
Essential criteria
- High level of computer literacy
- Confident in the use of MS Office IT software
- Good writing skills with the ability to write clearly and concisely
- Strong attention to detail
- Quickly and expertly identify and investigate inconsistencies in data
