Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Apprenticeships and Widening Participation Co-ordinator to join the team.

Experienced in either Learning & Development, apprenticeships, widening participation, or a similar people-focused environment, you’ll lead the delivery and coordination of a wide range of initiatives, including supporting our apprenticeship schemes, organising work placements, school engagement activities and career events. 

The role involves offering pastoral support to new learners, supporting internal teams with apprenticeship recruitment and onboarding, and ensuring compliance with funding rules. Strong communication, coordination, and data management skills are essential, including experience with spreadsheets.

You’ll also lead on communications and marketing, developing promotional materials (flyers, intranet content, newsletters, and bulletins) to raise the profile of the programmes. Experience in this area, along with strong written communication skills, is essential.

You will be engaging with individuals at all levels, clinical and non-clinical, senior leaders and entry level students, so strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential. You’ll need to be confident in influencing others and delivering a high standard of service to both internal and external stakeholders, as such, this role will suit someone who is highly organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role to enable the delivery of the Trust’s Apprenticeship and Widening participation programme of work that has the aim of broadening routes into healthcare and offering meaningful development opportunities and career pathways for our existing staff. The post holder will be responsible for all apprenticeship administration and marketing activities, ensuring that new and existing apprenticeships are promoted to the right audience and that the apprenticeship pages on the Learning Hub are up to date. The post holder will also play a key role liaising with our apprentices, line managers and apprenticeship providers ensuring that all are supported and communicated with appropriately and any issues are resolved in a timely manner. 

The successful candidate will also co-ordinate work experience and the schools’ liaison programme which will involve creating opportunities for local students interested in healthcare to learn about and gain exposure to the wide range of careers available. They will also organise and support a range of observerships, internships and placement schemes designed to create intermediate steps from work experience into employment.

  • Hold responsibility for the management of the Digital Account System (DAS) which includes adding staff to the list of learners, tracking their qualifications to ensure payments are made and collating financial data
  • Co-ordinate all activities connected to the marketing of apprenticeships including creating marketing materials, copy for the Intranet, newsletters and bulletins, posters and flyers as required.
  • Support the Head of Apprenticeships and Widening Participation in co-ordinating and delivering events that raise the profile of Apprenticeships across the Trust and the delivery of the Trust Apprenticeship Strategy.
  • Provide advice to staff and managers in identifying appropriate apprenticeship qualifications that meet the needs of staff and services and respond to a wide range of queries around training providers, start date availability, learner schedules, levy rules etc

  • Education to degree level, or equivalent qualification or relevant comparable experience

Experience

  • Experience of working in Learning and Development or a similar people-focussed role
  • Experience of providing advice to stakeholders at all levels including senior managers
  • Experience in creating newsletters, flyers or marketing material
  • Experience of maintaining spreadsheets and manipulating data
  • Experience of influencing in a work context
  • Demonstrable experience of being proactive and showing a high degree of initiative
  • Experience in event planning
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of creating digital content e.g. designing pages on Intranets or Learning Management systems
  • Experience in organising widening participation initiatives such as schools engagement or attending careers fairs

Skills Abilities/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good written communication skills; ability to produce and compose documents to a high standard of presentation with good written English
  • A solid understanding of the rules and requirements of the apprenticeship levy
  • Excellent communication skills including influencing and persuading others and a strong preference for verbal over written communication
  • Excellent computer skills including the ability to produce statistical reports
  • Excellent organisational, coordination and planning skills
  • Ability to work without close supervision and organise, anticipate and plan workload.
  • Ability and initiative to prioritise a busy workload
  • Able to ‘think on your feet’ to solve problems when they arise
