Job overview
- The post holder will support the recruitment and onboarding of staff at the Royal Marsden, working closely with the Lead Nurse for Recruitment and work collaboratively to lead on innovative strategies to support widening access.
- This post holder will support the development of all RN’s and HCSWs with and without cancer experience whilst they become clinically competent in the care of cancer patients.
- Monitor and support the progress and compliance of HCSW’s completing the care certificate and maintain an accurate database of progress and care certificate completions in line with The Royal Marsden Standard Operating Procedure for the Care Certificate
- Will support staff making the transition to working clinically at the Royal Marsden and work with RN’s and HCSW’s in the clinical area, role modelling excellence in clinical practice and helping individuals to adapt their existing knowledge and skills to meet the needs of cancer patients.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will support RN’s and HCSWs in the clinical environment and take on the role of a clinical assessor and supervisor in line with NMC Standards (2018).
- The post holder will support the Trust retention strategy for staff.
- Ensure that RN’s and HCSW staff are supported clinically to achieve all their Trust competencies e.g., Venepuncture, Cannulation and I/V competencies.
- The post holder will deliver online and in-person training and support for staff and work collaboratively with external education providers.
- The post-holder will link with Trust wide forums to support staff (Liaise with REACH/BAME Lead) and liaise with AHP colleagues to support the development of RN’s and HCSW’s in this area

- Act as a role model and coach in clinical practice, particularly for RN’s, HCSWs and junior nursing staff and communicate to a high standard.
- To facilitate and participate in educational programmes to support RNs and HCSW’s to gain competence/confidence with clinical skills.
- Support the retention of staff working with key stakeholders across the organization. Represent the Royal Marsden at external meeting for RN’s and HCSW development and widening access.
- Promote Freedom to Speak up and staff engagement on trust wide forums
- Work Collaboratively with all key stakeholders to support RNs and HCSW’s orientation to clinical practice and whilst working clinically.

Education
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of experience.
- Experience of mentorship/preceptorship/clinical education or demonstrable experience of supporting all learners in practice.
Desirable criteria
- PG Cert in Clinical Education
- Professional Nurse Advocate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job.
- Experience of supporting learners in practice
- SACT competent
- Competent in Venepuncture and Cannulation
- Competent in Medicine Management (Oral/IV)
