Urology Specialist Radiographer

Job overview
We have an exciting position available to join the Urology Specialist Therapy Radiographer team at the Royal Marsden.
As a registered, advanced practice, therapy radiographer with specialist knowledge in the treatment and care of patients with prostate cancer, you will use your expertise to provide a seamless experience throughout the radiotherapy pathway.
You will be required to manage and support patients during treatment, deliver high quality patient information seminars, contour CTV’s and autonomously conduct both on treatment review and follow up consultations. Experience in all these areas is desirable but a full training package will be provided.
This new position is available at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden and will be 30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will provide evidenced based clinical practice, advice and support to urology patients throughout their radiotherapy pathway. Including radiotherapy explanation, preparation advice and support and on-treatment symptom management and holistic care.
- The post holder will participate in the development of practice, standards and guidelines relating to radiotherapy preparation and on-treatment review.
- The post holder will provide specialist clinical practice in the form of fiducial marker insertion, preparatory advice and support, side-effect information and management to all patients undergoing this procedure.
- The post holder will ensure best practice is followed and maximise patient benefit through careful, economical and appropriate use of NHS resources

- To provide patients with a comprehensive summary of radiotherapy practical aspects, preparation and side-effects; to empower patient to make fully informed treatment decisions.
- To provide specialist level of care to patients undergoing prostate fiducial marker insertion. Responsible for advising on and assessing patient’s fitness for gold marker insertion, taking into consideration medical history, medication, allergies and sepsis risk.
- Responsible for explaining the fiducial marker insertion procedure to patients alongside possible complications and suitable actions, ensuring informed consent.
- Perform fiducial marker insertion for patients due treatment on all platforms (linear Accelerator, CyberKnife, MR Linac), Following Trust/Trial guidelines, to ensure safe insertion and optimal positioning of fiducials for radiotherapy guidance. Manage complications during the procedure and request medical support when required.

Essential criteria
- HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer (requires BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent accredited programme)
- Significant experience of sophisticated RT environment as a Band 7 Therapy radiographer treating advanced techniques, particularly IGRT
- Participated in a quality management programme
- Experience of participating in clinical education of pre-registration students.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in patient clinical review
- Post graduate qualification/training in clinical subject or equivalent experience
- Experience using/integrating MRI in the radiotherapy pathway
- Participation in multidisciplinary education
- Have participated in research/audit/service evaluation.
- Experience in multi modal urology contouring.
- Experience in Prostate fiducial marker insertion

- Have assured demeanour with appropriate confidence in own abilities, be able to seek managerial support as necessary
- Display strong organisational and time management skills, resulting in effective resource management
