Macmillan Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works as part of a multidisciplinary team providing high quality, safe care for Croydon patients requiring the services of the Lung Team, undergoing investigation and treatment for lung cancer. The CNS will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to make decisions regarding patient management, acting as a key worker. The CNS is responsible for ensuring delivery of evidence based, patient centred care in accordance with Trust and departmental guidelines and protocols, and in accordance with NMC The Code (2015). The post holder will manage a lung cancer patient caseload; assessing, planning, implementing and monitoring care. Particular emphasis will be placed on the support of patients during the diagnostic phase and in the nurse–led post treatment phase.

·    To assess patients, plan, implement and monitor care, facilitating best practice and evidenced based patient centred care for patients with lung cancer. This involves providing continuity of care from the point of referral and diagnostic phase and in the nurse led post treatment phase, acting as a key worker.

·    To be involved in developing and maintain high standards of care by underpinning practice with current research and evidence based knowledge.

·    To be actively involved in monitoring and developing the Lung Cancer Service across the Trust. To ensure patients receive sustainable high quality care that is effective and safe

  • • Cancer/Lung experience
  • • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary team.
  • Advanced Communication Skills Training Certificate

  • • Recognised teaching qualification or working towards.
  • • Audit and research initiatives

Knowledge and understanding
