Band 5 (full-time 37.5 hours)
Croydon University Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic, caring and motivated individual to join the Theatre team as a Theatre Practitioner or Recovery .
We are particularly interested in candidates with Theatre scrub or Recovery experience , able to demonstrate a commitment to developing yourself, and supporting the various teams.
Working in Theatre or Recovery , you will be rotate through the different specialties, including Emergency theatres or Recovery , learning to become an expert in the patient; team leading intraoperative/scrubbing or Recovering , and ensure excellent patient care is maintained throughout the patient’s pathway.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be part of the clinical team who ensure that clinical care of patients, and others using the services, receive an efficient and quality service.
Within this role you will be expected to work across both the Croydon Elective & Emergency Surgical Centre's.
The role responsibilities will be to:
- Prepare the clinical areas (theatres or Recovery ) to receive patients for surgical procedures or Post Anaesthetic .
- Provide assistance in clinical areas for immediate post-operative care when the need arises
- Assist in the positioning and preparation of the patient as directed by the surgical team or Aneasthetist
- Ensure that any specimens are correctly labelled and dispatched to the lab
- Ensure all care is documented on the IT system, including all disposables, and everything is logged accurately on the correct system in accordance with Trust and departmental policy and procedures
- Help control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding
- Uniform code
- Maintaining a clean working environment
- Decontamination/sterilization procedures
- Aseptic technique

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner -registered with NMC or HPC
- UK Recognised Anaesthetic course (for nurses wanting to practice Anaesthetics)
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
- Teaching & assessing qualification
- IV cannulation and phlebotomy
Experience
Essential criteria
- Up to date clinical knowledge Experience in an acute setting
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a perioperative environment
- Ability to supervise and motivate others
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to work in Theatres with minimum supervision following achievement of set objectives within 3-6 months
- Planning, delivering and evaluating care
- Problem solving and analytical skills

- Proven communication skills both orally and in writing
