Job overview

This new and innovative role for the  School Nursing Associate will be a key player within Thurrock Healthy Families 5-19 service in delivering a range of public health promotion activities and approaches within a school and community setting, delivered in a way that will have a positive impact upon the physical, emotional, sexual, social health and wellbeing of children, young people and families. the appointed applicant must be hold the Nursery Nurse or Nurse Associate qualification or have experience working within this environment

Main duties of the job

·       To be responsible for completing referrals that have been triaged by a registered nurse. 

     To complete statistical and other returns as requested e.g. referrals to internal and external agencies

To take a proactive role in health education and promotion including designing/sourcing and updating of resources including for social media platforms.

To have an awareness of any risk management issues and report onwards as appropriate

To work with the school health team to complete all aspects of screening for reception and year 6 and other year groups if required.

 To support the  lead and coordinate  the development and delivery of the weight management programmes.

To be responsible for the uptake/delivery of the healthy child programme for children who are home schooled, NEET and EOTAS

To update/complete all health questionnaires, to triage, follow-up, complete any outcomes, retaining any data/statistics required.

Promotional emails for health questionnaires to be updated on social media and sent to all schools

To proactively assist in meeting the contractual requirements of the service specification and meeting the public health outcomes (KPI’s) outlined in the contract.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.  All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.  As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.  The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,258 to a maximum of £2,122 p.a. pro rata for part time).

  • NNEB or CACHE Diploma (level 3) in child care or BTEC Diploma in child care or NVQ (level 3) in child care
  • Nurse Associate Qualification
  • NVQ level 2/3 in Numeracy and literacy

Experience

  • Experience of working with children with additional needs
  • Evidence of working within healthcare setting 2 yrs community experience
