Job overview

To provide a high quality, patient centred and efficient cancer diagnostic service for patients in line with the Trust, RM Partners and National guidelines.
The primary aim of the clinic is to exclude or confirm a cancer diagnosis in patients who present with vague symptoms that do not fit. There is an aim to capture patients with vague symptoms
earlier to allow timelier diagnosis and to reduce the number of patients presenting via ED with new cancer diagnoses. If further work up/ onward referral is required to a secondary care
specialist e.g. senior health, rheumatology this will be undertaken by the RDCC team wherever possible. It is recognized that a conclusive diagnosis may not be reached in a proportion of
patients despite extensive secondary care investigation and these patients may be referred back to primary care for on-going review and/ or safety netting.

Main duties of the job

To have excellent keyboard and word processor skills in Word and Microsoft Outlook.
 To be assistant in the offsite transcription service for the clinical team, within Trust targets. This will include the uploading of dictation and the downloading of completed correspondence within an appropriate timeframe. In addition, the postholder must check all downloaded correspondence to ensure the patient demographics are correct, and the substance is accurate. After review by the relevant clinician, all correspondence must be sent to the recipient in a timely manner, filed in the patients’ medical records and uploaded to hospital IT systems as appropriate. It is expected that this process should be completed within 5 working days (current standard).
 To assist in completing (distribution and circulation and posting) Dictate IT 3 letters

Working for our organisation

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
